Spring is one of the most beautiful times of the year the metropolitan area. It’s the season that trees begin to grow new leaves, flowers begin to bloom and all sort of other plants and vegetation “spring” back to life. But all of this blooming adds a whole lot of allergens to the air, especially pollen and especially in Arizona where there is a lot dust. Although there isn’t much you can do about the amount of allergens in the air outside, you can use your home’s air filtration system to relieve your spring allergies indoors. Today we’re going to tell you how!
4 tips for avoiding spring allergies indoors
- Keep windows and doors closed. If you want to reduce the amount of allergens in your home’s air, you should first do everything you can to stop them from getting inside. Although it might be tempting to open your windows on a warm day, you’ll do so at the expense of anyone who suffers from spring allergies. Try to keep your windows and doors shut tightly. Also, make sure to take care of any air leaks in your home that can allow allergens from the air outside into your home.
- Change your air filter often. We explain to our clients at every visit that your air filter can only do its job when it’s clean. If it is clogged with dirt and debris, allergens can go right around your filter and into your home’s air. As you should every season, check the condition of your home’s air filter or media every month and change or clean it when needed.
- Upgrade to a filter with a higher MERV rating. The higher the MERV rating of your filter, the more allergens it will be able to remove from your home’s air. In order to help alleviate spring allergy symptoms, install a filter with the highest MERV rating that your HVAC system is designed to handle. If you have any questions about the right filter for your HVAC system, consult your system’s owner manual or contact Cooper Climate Control.
- Install a whole house air cleaner. The best thing you can do to relieve spring allergy systems is to install a whole house air cleaner. A Healthy Climate Home Filtration System from Cooper Climate Control will perform better than even the highest-efficiency air filters, and can remove up to 95% of the particles in your home’s air. In fact, severe allergies are one of the top reasons that many homeowners choose to install whole house air cleaners.
