At Cooper Climate Control Heating & Air Conditioning, we understand that finding water pooling around your air conditioner is not exactly a welcome sight. You may panic as you mentally calculate how much it will cost for air conditioner service to fix the problem in your valley home. Fortunately, there are some troubleshooting tips you can try on your own to alleviate the water problem and have your air conditioner service resume. The first thing you should try is turning the unit off and cleaning up all of the water that you find. If possible, try to determine where the moisture originated from inside of your air conditioner. You should not turn the unit back on again if you notice that any electrical components are wet.
You also want to pay attention to the drain pan on your air conditioner. If it is overflowing with water, empty it and pour a small amount of bleach into the unit. While the air conditioner is drying out, its pump should kick in and process the bleach. If that doesn’t happen, it may indicate that the pump has broken and you need to contact us to fix it. The pump may also be clogged. In that case, we don’t advise you to try to clear the debris from it. We have specialized equipment to clear the clog and return the pump to working order.
As you are attempting to clear water from inside of your air conditioner, you may notice that the evaporator and its coils are covered in debris. This can lead to the unit not being able to dehumidify the air and can lead to condensation. You can prevent this problem by changing the air filter frequently and having annual preventative maintenance performed by Cooper Climate Control.
