Is your heating and cooling system uneven? Are parts of your home really warm, while others are too cold? A zoning system may be the answer for you, particularly if your home is large or has multiple levels, or if you have several individuals living with you. Zoning systems allow you to set a temperature in each zone that you establish, and then regulate the temperature specifically for those zones. That way, you don’t waste costly conditioned air on areas that you don’t use as much as others and everyone is happy with their zone’s temperature.
Controlling Temperatures in Each Zone
Zoning systems control the flow of conditioned air by means of several motorized dampers, and you then install individual thermostats in each zone. Typically, most systems enable you to establish as many as four zones, and you can cut your energy costs by as much as 25 percent.
When you use a zoning system, you can anticipate temperature changes in specific zones, perhaps because those areas have lots of windows or high ceilings, and then program when the cooling or heating system should work for those specific zones. For example, you can program the thermostat to lower or raise the temperature in common living areas during the night, when everyone is sleeping.
Zoning systems works very well when paired with programmable thermostats, which enable you to set the temperature, ahead of time, for each zone. You’ll need to have your zoning system installed by a professional, which can be expensive. But you should recoup your expenses quickly with what you conserve in energy costs.
