When purchasing an air conditioning unit you often hear of SEER rating, you may ask yourself what it means, and why is it important. SEER rating stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, this pertains to the overall efficiency rating of the unit and measures overall cooling output and divides that by the electrical input required to run the device. The higher the SEER the more efficient the unit, and often times the more complex the mechanical aspect of the machine. While this increase in efficiency is usually tied to a higher price of a unit the savings on monthly energy bills can be a positive trade off.
The replacement of an older unit that may be running inefficiently with a newer and higher SEER rating can lead to a lower monthly energy bill which in turn will end up saving you money. Another benefit of a high efficiency unit may be in the form of rebates from a local utility or the state. Many municipalities will offer rebates to property owners in order to reward those that upgrade the overall efficiency of their domiciles. This can be yet another reason that replacement rather than repair of an old unit can be the way to go.
If you find yourself still on the fence about SEER rating, high efficiency units and whether to repair or to replace your current AC unit than give us a call. We can walk you through the process of upgrading as well as discuss your options when it comes to various units with different SEER ratings.
